WHAT IS SPIRITUAL DIRECTION?

 

Spiritual direction is an opportunity for you to share how the Lord is moving in your life, what your prayer is like, or to speak of what is perhaps limiting your relationship to God. The spiritual director acts as a sounding board that helps you to see where the Holy Spirit is active in your life and where you may be called. You may simply start off the time speaking about your own relationship with God or struggles. Or you may find it helpful to have the spiritual director ask questions. Either way, it is important to see spiritual direction as a way to be more attentive to God’s voice than the voices of the secular culture or other influences. That said, it is not counseling or therapy. The point of spiritual direction is to help you grow in your spiritual life.

WHAT DO YOU TALK ABOUT WITH A SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR?

Some questions to reflect on before speaking with your director are:

 

• What did I experience during my time of prayer these last weeks?

• What really happened between God and me during my prayer?

• How did God seem to be at work within me?

• Anything God seemed to be asking of me?

• Where did I experience the presence of God these last weeks?

• What has been one of my struggles or crosses these last weeks?

• How is God working in my life?

• What am I doing to nourish my faith/prayer life?

• What part of my spiritual life needs strengthening? Am I experiencing consolation (a feeling of closeness or moving towards God) or desolation (a feeling of absence or moving away from God)?

• Where are you struggling in the moral life (Think perhaps of relationships and responsibilities to others)?

• What is your program of life (what is your regular habit of prayer)?

• How should I try to be holy?

• What is God calling me to do with my life?

¿QUE ES LA DIRECCION ESPIRITUAL?

 

La dirección espiritual es una oportunidad para que compartas cómo se mueve el Señor en tu vida, cómo es tu oración o para hablar de lo que tal vez limite tu relación con Dios. El director espiritual actúa como una caja de resonancia que te ayuda a ver dónde está activo el Espíritu Santo en tu vida y dónde puedes ser llamado. Puede simplemente comenzar el tiempo hablando de su propia relación con Dios o luchas. O puede que le resulte útil que el director espiritual haga preguntas. De cualquier manera, es importante ver la dirección espiritual como una forma de estar más atento a la voz de Dios que las voces de la cultura secular u otras influencias. Dicho eso, no es consejería o terapia. El objetivo de la dirección espiritual es ayudarte a crecer en tu vida espiritual.

¿DE QUÉ HABLAR CON UN DIRECTOR ESPIRITUAL?

 

Algunas preguntas para reflexionar antes de hablar con su director son:

 

• ¿Qué experimenté durante mi tiempo de oración estas últimas semanas?

• ¿Qué pasó realmente entre Dios y yo durante mi oración?

• ¿Cómo parecía Dios actuar en mi interior?

• ¿Algo que Dios parecía estar pidiéndome?

• ¿Dónde experimenté la presencia de Dios estas últimas semanas?

• ¿Cuál ha sido una de mis luchas o cruces en estas últimas semanas?

• ¿Cómo está Dios trabajando en mi vida?

• ¿Qué estoy haciendo para nutrir mi vida de fe / oración?

• ¿Qué parte de mi vida espiritual necesita fortalecerse? ¿Estoy experimentando consuelo (un sentimiento de cercanía o moviéndome hacia Dios) o desolación (una sensación de ausencia o alejándome de Dios)?

• ¿Dónde estás luchando en la vida moral (piensas quizás en las relaciones y responsabilidades con los demás)?

• ¿Cuál es tu programa de vida (cuál es tu hábito habitual de oración)?

• ¿Cómo debo tratar de ser santo?

• ¿Qué es lo que Dios me llama a hacer con mi vida?
