AND KEEP IN MIND THESE SUGGESTIONS

Other things you can do

There are things you can do at home to unite yourself to the Lord if you choose not to attend Mass. In addition to the livestreaming from our Facebook page, here are some other suggestions:

  1. Reflect on the Sunday Mass readings, which you can find on the website of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (usccb.org/readings). Magnificat has also made their online version free to access. It includes the readings, reflections, and prayers in this Lenten season: https://us.magnificat.net/free.

  2. Watch live coverage of the Holy Mass. For those with access to the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), you can watch live daily Masses through their TV channel.

  3. Fr. Colin's Sunday homilies are available at soundcloud.com/frcolinwen and also on our own website by clicking here.

  4. Most importantly, all Catholics unable to attend Mass should make a spiritual communion. If you cannot receive the Blessed Sacrament at Mass, the ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Sacrament allows you to partake in its effects. In other words, although you do not receive the Eucharist physically, you can still receive the graces that flow from the Eucharist. Although we obtain more graces when we eat His Body and drink His Blood as He commanded, a spiritual communion still produces a partial participation in the effects of the Sacrament. Here is a brief Act of Spiritual Communion which you can learn and then pray whenever unable to receive the Eucharist:

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.  I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.  I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Finally, let us pray for all those who are suffering as a result of this pandemic, their loved ones, and for all our health care professionals.
